Modalities

  • This type of session is geared for the athlete, weekend warrior or sedentary person who needs assistance with improving flexibility and range of motion.

Depending on the needs of the client, we may incorporate the following:

    Assisted Range of Motion Stretching

Thai Style Stretching (on the table)

    Neural Reset Therapy® (NRT)

Use of various massage techniques targeting trigger points or acupressure points may also be used for this service.

Attire: Due to the active nature of this bodywork, comfortable workout clothing is required.

  • This style of massage targets chronic tension in muscles that lie far below the body's surface.

Deep muscle techniques involve slow strokes, providing direct sustained pressure or friction movements that go across the muscle grain.

The therapist may use their elbows and fists to manipulate the tissue and access trigger or acupressure points. The client may be asked to perform specific movements while pressure is being applied.

Please be aware that it is possible to feel sore and tired for a day or two after this type of session.

  • MLD, Dr. Vodder School™, International is a specialized, light touch therapy used to enhance the immune system by increasing the rate the body moves lymphatic fluid, while utilizing designated pathways found within the body.

  • Myofascial Release is a style of bodywork based on the John F. Barnes’ Approach®.

It will safely and gently release the entire Myofascial complex, enabling lasting, comprehensive and profound results.

The process happens by the therapist gently sinking into the tissue, waiting until the tissue softens, while a continuous and sustained pressure is held (5 to 10 minutes).

This allows the tissue to soften or “melt”. In doing so, the body may begin to unwind (move) and possibly shake.

No oils or creams are used. The work is done on bare skin.

Attire: Due to the active nature of this style of bodywork, we suggest the following type of clothing:

Men: Shorts, a t-shirt can be worn, but the work does need to be done on bare skin.

Women: Shorts, bra or swimsuit are suggested.

  • Laurel welcomes babies, children and young adults in her massage & bodywork practice.

For any children under the age of 18, please call and we will send you a separate intake form.

    Additional Information:

    1. One parent or legal guardian must be in the room during the session for all children under the age of 16.

    2. Myofascial Release or Dynamic (Sports) massage are the options for pediatric massage & bodywork.

    3. It is best to schedule 30 or 45 minute sessions for younger children under 12.

    4. It is important for the child or young adult to always feel safe and secure. If the session needs to be stopped because the child is not responding well, the parent or guardian agrees to end the session early with no reimbursement for any of the unused time.

    5. Please feel free to book an in person, 15 minute consultation/introduction between Laurel, the parent and the child prior to booking a first time appointment.

Attire: Shorts, swimsuit or loose fitting comfortable clothing is required.

  • This type of specialized bodywork is for pregnant and post pregnancy clients.

Techniques from other modalities (massage styles) are modified while using pillows and props to support the growing belly (baby).

Side-lying and elevated positions on the table will be implemented. You will never be face down (on your stomach) during the session.

    Prenatal Certification:

Laurel has taken advanced training to become prenatal certified. This training is specific to pregnancy and post pregnancy massage.

Certification ensures that a therapist is knowledgeable in all precautions and contraindications during all stages of pregnancy. This is to ensure the mother-to-be and baby are safe.

  • This style of massage involves long, kneading strokes, addressing the uppermost layer of muscle. It may also be combined with rhythmic tapping, vibration and movement of the joints.

It is targeted to provide gentle, soothing relief, along with a relaxing experience.

Massage cream is used to facilitate smooth, gliding strokes over the entire body.

  • Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises (or TRE®) is a simple yet innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma.

Created by Dr. David Berceli, PhD, TRE safely activates a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system.

When this muscular shaking/vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is encouraged to return back to a state of balance.

Please Note: This work is done on the floor (on a yoga mat). Clients must be able to get onto and up from the floor by themselves.

TRE® is a safe and effective stress release technique for most people.

The TRE process should not be used as a substitute for trauma recovery procedures of a medical or psychological nature.

Individuals who have physical or psychological/psychiatric conditions that require strict regulation, individuals with fragile psychological defenses, a complex history of trauma or restricting physical or medical limitations should consult their medical practitioner or a Certified TRE Provider prior to performing these exercises.
